Coleman Event 14 Button Clamp

Coleman Event 14 Button Clamp

After getting seared by the scorching Australian sun yet again, this summer was the summer to invest in some decent shade. I purchased a Coleman Event 14 because of it’s larger shade area but more compact packaged state. The downside is that there’s a lot more assembly required.

On one particularly windy day I thought it would be a great idea to hammer in the ground stake before fitting the canopy so the whole thing wouldn’t immediately blow away. My mistake was hammering in the stake whilst the leg was down. The position of button meant that the stake pushed against the button cover on the way down, causing it to come loose and become permanently deformed. Without the flimsy little cover, the pin can’t engage resulting in a gazebo suitable only for people who like to crawl everywhere.

My solution was to create a clamp that would hold everything together with good ‘ol mechanical fasteners. I wasn’t hugely confident that a replacement 3D printed cover would hold particularly well with the shallow snap fit but I’m sure it’s achievable to anyone willing to invest more time. I printed this design in PETG for it’s elasticity and good layer adhesion. You can grab the design from Thingiverse using the link below.
