Laser Cut Bath Caddy
Spurned by the latest Covid-19 lockdown in Melbourne, I found myself with a particularly strong impetus to complete a project idea that had been hanging around for quite some time. I don’t often take baths, but this lock down presented the perfect opportunity to soak up some relaxation time and i’ll be damned if i’m not doing it at maximum comfort levels!

Yes, there are plethora of Bath Caddy products already available from the cheap and effective to the ones that ooze luxury. The thing is, I needed a Bath Caddy ASAP, I didn’t want to spend a lot, and I needed one that would suit my bath that has one edge jammed up against a wall. Since my bath is walled in on one side, it doesn’t accommodate the typical caddy design that overhangs the bath edge necessitating a custom design. The icing on the cake is that a custom designed caddy can be perfectly tailored to my specific requirements.
As you can see above, the original solution was to plonk the device on a stool and precariously try to place any refreshments in a paradoxical easy to access yet safe location. Twisting to one side for an extended period of time whilst fumbling for refreshments really detracts from the experience. Contrast that with the Caddy and the difference is like night and day.
The integrated device stand can accommodate 3 different devices, with the tablet slots offering 3 different angles to accommodate different bathing positions.
I chose to etch the ambidextrous refreshment zones so I didn’t have to add any additional components to the product. The downside is that the etching is a little shallow, so it mostly serves as an aesthetic feature on this first iteration.
The two vertical elements pictured toward the outside of either end of the caddy are intended to act as stops that prevent the caddy from rotating and thus making accidents more difficult. However a typo in the design meant they’re not in the right spot (the uploaded design has this issue corrected), but the design still functions well enough that I’m not going to waste any material remaking it.
